Foreign TSOs - ETSO

Am I correct in believing that there is no reciprocity between the FAA TSO and an ETSO? I was given a rig to repack where both the container and reserve are only placarded as having an ETSO. I am pretty convinced that I can't pack this and the owner, a US citizen living and jumping the in the US, shouldn't be jumping it. I just wanted to double check before I send him away.

Sewing Machine and grommet press opinions please

Good afternoon,
I am looking to purchase sewing machines. I am not sure what I should get nor do i have an opinion on a particular brand. Here are the machines I have already
Artisan single needle
Consew 255rb Walking foot
Tiako 1900 electronic Bartack (anyone know anything about this machine?)
Singer Class 7

I am looking for a Zig Zag and double needle. I am not sure which machine I would be better off with.

Zig Zag
Consew 199R-2A
Bernina 217
Pfaff 128
or something else?

Double Needle (What needle space do I need?)
Consew 33RB-1
Juki L-H515
Singer 112W116
or something else?

I also would like to buy a grommet press and not sure which one to buy. Any feedback would be great.

I have to reline an old Raven 3 and couldnt find the trim specifications at precisions website. Found the manual at parachutemanuals.com but theres no trim chart included.
Does anyone have this information available?

Sewing Machines

What's up Riggers!

I am a new rigger and am trying to educate myself on machines. Also looking to buy something here in Arizona. Perhaps we could start a thread or topic on sewing machines and then as sub topics, we could have Juki, Consew, Singer etc. Also would be great if some of us took the time to upload manuals etc or manuals could have their own section. Under each of those perhaps we could have a trouble shooting this machine (if it is really different or obscure). I don't know just a thought. I got on here hoping to find lots of good info on what people are using, what they recommend, what not to buy. So if any rigger's want to start out with what their first two machines were and why. Then maybe what you are using now etc. I would appreciate it. Well hope to hear from some of you and this is Chuck in Arizona with Rigger Please LLC. Happy rigging!

Missing data card and service bulletin compliance

A customer brought me a Mirage with a Raven 181-M and an expired Cypres. He wanted me to assemble a new Smart reserve and Cypres into the container. No problem. While I was removing the Dash-M I noticed that compliance with SB1221 was noted on the warning label but not on the data card. Presumably my customer will want to sell the reserve and it would make things easier if he could advertise it as in compliance with the SB. My best guess is that he will have to find a Master Rigger to inspect the work and re-sign the data card to indicate compliance. Agree/disagree?

Sofie with new 20 year service life

Para-Phernalia has published a new manual for the Softie dated 8/09, here, that specifies a 20 year service life. Softie manual indicates that 20 year life applies to Preserve canopies also.

Both the President of Para-Phernalia and my local FAA inspector consider this retroactive. FAA inspector indicated the last version of the manual should apply.

The FAA inspector also said that a rig GT 20years old, packed before the new manual but still within it's 180 day cycle (U.S.A.) is still good to go until the end of the 180 days. Of course this is one inspector.

Para-Phernalia is offering a trade-in program for direct from the factory purchases of a new rig.

GQ Security Safety Chute Problem

I have a 1984 GQ Security Safety Chute with NO data on it - No Serial number, No Manufacture name or TSO, No nothing. It appears to have been removed or worn off by age wear.
The canopy is a SAC 22 - made by GQ in 1984 - that is sewn directly to the risers - it does have the Data stamped on it.
The old GQ Security manual I have - states that its rigs have a life of 15 yrs from day of manufacture.
It has been packed 4 times by various riggers - since 2004 (past its LIFE of 15 yrs.)

Question - is this rig still legal to use? I would say NO ----- anyone disagree?

Tempo instructions

I have some instructions for a tempo reserve but they are not very clear. I am trying to find some instructions or authorization to pro pack a tempo if it exists.

I have asked some rigger friends of mine for some advise and I have gotten many different answers. I would like to get some guidance and advise from a larger pool.
